Who I Am

Hello, and welcome to my blog! I’m a U.S. citizen with strong roots in South Korea, where my passion for electrical engineering first began. My grandfather was one of Korea’s pioneering electrical engineers, and my uncle works as a supervisor at Korea Electric Power Corporation and a thermal power plant.

It feels almost like part of my DNA passed down from my grandfather—and uncle—that I’ve always been curious about electricity since childhood. Even today, the thought of high-voltage currents excites me to the point where I can almost feel the tingling sensation running through my body. Although utility poles have disappeared from city streets as electrical facilities are now underground, I still find joy when I visit rural areas in Korea and see the massive transmission towers stretching across the landscape. Those structures remind me of the power and beauty of electricity, and they always bring me a quiet sense of pride and inspiration.

Academic Goals

I plan to major in Electrical Engineering, focusing on advanced technologies and sustainable energy solutions. I'm fascinated by renewable energy systems, smart grids, and efficient power management. My academic goal is to become a professional who designs innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact while meeting the world’s growing demand for energy.

One of my greatest inspirations is Nikola Tesla, whose vision and creativity shaped the modern world of electricity. I still remember watching The Prestige, where Tesla was portrayed as a mysterious genius experimenting with wireless power. That film electrified my imagination and made me realize how innovation can feel almost magical. Later, I watched Tesla starring Ethan Hawke, which showed both the brilliance and struggles of his life. These films reminded me that genius alone is not enough; you also need resilience and practical success. Unlike Tesla’s financial hardships, I aspire to become a “successful Tesla”: an engineer who not only advances technology but also achieves economic stability, ensuring that my innovations can thrive and benefit society.

Interests & Hobbies -  Life Beyond Study

Outside of academics, I enjoy exploring how technology connects with everyday life.
My interests include:

Robotics for Elder Care

I am deeply interested in developing robotic systems that assist elderly patients. This passion is rooted in my own childhood: since my mother was a working mom, I spent much of my early life with my grandparents. They had lived through times when electricity was scarce, yet even in the modern era of abundant power, they remained committed to saving energy. I vividly remember their careful habits—turning off lights, conserving electricity—and those lessons shaped my respect for energy as something precious. These personal experiences inspire me to design elder-care robots that not only provide comfort and dignity but also operate with efficiency and sustainability, reflecting the values my grandparents instilled in me.

Environmental Action

Sustainability is part of my daily life. During high school in Seoul, I commuted every day by bicycle using the city’s bike-sharing program, Seoul Bike “Ddareungi”. Riding late at night with friends after study sessions was more than just transportation; it was a shared journey that created unforgettable memories. Those moments taught me that caring for the environment and cherishing friendships can go hand in hand. Another turning point came when my uncle took me on a tour of a thermal power plant. I was overwhelmed by its enormous scale, the deafening noise, and the sight of steam and heated water being released into the sea. Witnessing how such facilities could negatively affect ecosystems left a lasting impression on me. That experience became one of the strongest motivations for choosing electrical engineering as my major—because I want to help create energy systems that are powerful yet sustainable, advancing technology without harming the environment.

Music & Electricity

Music is built on sound waves, while electricity flows through oscillations and signals. Both share the physics of energy transfer and resonance. Exploring this connection inspires me to merge creativity with engineering, whether through audio devices, sound engineering, or simply appreciating how physical principles shape both art and technology. Beyond theory, I often experiment with audio equipment—testing amplifiers, speakers, and headphones—to understand how electrical signals transform into sound. These hands-on experiences remind me that engineering is not only about efficiency but also about emotion: the way a single electrical impulse can become a melody that moves people.

Time Travel through Memories

Having lived in both the U.S. and South Korea, I often revisit the places I once called home through Google Earth. I enjoy noticing even the smallest changes in buildings or neighborhoods, which brings back warm memories and reminds me how time itself can be a journey. Sometimes I zoom in on the streets where I used to walk with friends, or the schools I attended, and I feel as if I’m traveling back in time. The digital view of my childhood home is more than just an image—it’s a portal to the past, where nostalgia and curiosity meet. Observing how neighborhoods evolve over the years also deepens my awareness of change and continuity, reminding me that progress in technology and society is always intertwined with personal history.

Closing Thought

This blog is my space to share my journey, ideas, and inspirations as I work toward becoming an electrical engineer dedicated to sustainability and innovation. Whether through robotics that care for the elderly, environmental projects like cycling and plogging, the physics of sound and electricity, or the joy of revisiting past places through digital time travel, I believe energy is more than just power—it’s the foundation of human progress and a bridge to a cleaner, brighter future. And like Tesla, I want to push the boundaries of what is possible—but with the added strength of building a life that is both visionary and secure.
